Counselling

We offer free, one-to-one counselling for women and girls who live in the Bradford area. You can self-refer to our counselling service or be referred by other organisations and agencies such as your GP or support worker.

It takes a lot of courage to come for counselling and it’s not always easy to talk about your thoughts and feelings.

You don’t have to talk about anything that you are not ready to talk about. Your counsellor will not judge you or tell you what to do. She will help you to try to make sense of what has happened to you and to recognise what you need to move forward.

Counselling can help you to get to know yourself better and to value yourself more highly. It can also help you regain a sense of control over your own life.

When you contact us, we’ll invite you to have initial conversations with a counsellor - online, on the phone or in person, where we can find out more about the sort of support you need.

If counselling is appropriate, we’ll invite you onto our Well-Being and Trauma Support Programme. This consists of 6 one-to-one sessions with the same counsellor, at the same time each week.
At the moment these are mainly happening online, as this is the safest option in the ongoing situation with Covid 19.

The Well-being and Trauma Programme is designed to build a foundation of safety and stability.  In these sessions we will share a range of strategies to help you feel calm and grounded when things feel difficult. We also offer information to help you understand the ways our brains and bodies are impacted by trauma, so you can understand more about the underlying systems that drive our responses and behaviour.
This programme will help you to assess your needs and equip yourself with a tool-kit of self-care strategies… and this might be all you need to be able to move forward in your life with more confidence…or it will give you a more stable base from which to move into more in-depth counselling.
If you want to progress into counselling, you’ll be put on our waiting list and we will see you as soon as we are able. Again, at the moment this counselling will be online if that’s possible for you. We have very secure online rooms where you can have weekly sessions with your counsellor. The number of sessions will be decided between you and your counsellor, to fit your particular needs and circumstances.

We also run the Jyoti service providing specialist counselling to Black, Asian and Minoritised Women.
